Ideas for Using Old Pumpkins after Halloween

Though it’s fun to celebrate Halloween with tons of pumpkins, there is nothing to do with them when you’re done. That’s why we here at SouthTowne Hyundai have put together some ideas on using old pumpkins.

According to Earth 911, many of the uncarved pumpkins that you set out will be unspoiled. If they are, try using them for some of these delicious recipes:

  • Pumpkin Puree – Simply scrape the guts and seeds out. Put the pumpkin upside down in a baking pan with a cup of water in it. Bake for about 90 minutes, or until flesh is tender. Scrape out the flesh, and puree in a blender.
  • Pumpkin Seeds – These tasty bits are good for snacking. Simply clean and dry the seeds, cover in oil, and roast in the over. After they get crunchy, simply salt and enjoy.
  • Pumpkin Cocktail – Have leftover puree? Add a tablespoon of pumpkin puree to two ounces of flavored Vodka (try vanilla, cinnamon, or ginger). Add a splash of lime juice, and a dab of honey. Shake well and serve over ice.

Already carved your pumpkins? No problem. Try these solutions:

  • Pumpkin Planter – Fill old pumpkins with potting soil, add your favorite fall foliage, and let it grow.

Feed the Wildlife – Deer love old pumpkins. Cut them up into fourths, and set them near a wooded area.
