Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell Sets Record For Longest Continuous Journey By A Fuel Cell Vehicle

If you have any doubts about the capability of hydrogen fuel cell technology, you shouldn’t worry about any fuel cell vehicle bearing a Hyundai nameplate. The Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell recently set a world record for the longest continuous journey by a fuel cell vehicle.

The extraordinary feat took place on the M25 motorway (we call them interstates here in the US), an outer belt that runs around London. A team of drivers from the London Hydrogen Network Expansion group took turns driving the Hyundai ix35, making a total of 50 laps around the loop.

Hyundai had previously estimated the range of the ix35 Fuel Cell to be 369 miles. For the experiment, the real range turned out to be about 400 miles–almost 12% better!

All in all the team drove 6,096 miles over six days. Filling up didn’t add much to the overall time either. The ix35 only takes three minutes to replenish its supply. And remember, that’s 6,096 miles and zero emissions. This was a truly historic trip!
