The braking system is arguably the most important part of a car. Without it, all that collision prevention technology is useless so it’s important to keep it in top condition. If you need new brakes, feel free to stop in at SouthTowne Hyundai and see what other services we have to offer! Here are a few signs it’s time to have your braking system inspected:
- Vibrating – If the brake pedal is vibrating, it could be an indicator of warped rotors. Generally caused by braking for long periods of time, like when towing, warped rotors are a danger and mean that the brake pad isn’t touching the surface of the rotor evenly. While it isn’t cause for immediate alarm, it certainly means you should schedule a service appointment as soon as possible and avoid braking for long periods of time.
- Seeing – By looking through the wheel spokes on most vehicles, it’s possible to perform a physical inspection of your brake pads. The pad should be pressed against the rotor when parked. If it looks like there’s less than a quarter-inch of pad left, make an appointment for the near future.
- Grinding – A loud grinding or growling sound indicates that the pads are completely gone and you’ve likely damaged your rotors. Make a service appointment right away and don’t be surprised if the technician suggests a new set of rotors altogether.
