Are Fuel Cell Vehicles the Future?

Fuel Cell Vehicles

While fuel cell vehicles aren’t currently a high-demand, mass-produced vehicle in the U.S., there are a number of fuel cell cars available for purchase, including the 2015 Hyundai Tucson. Currently, there are only a handful of hydrogen fuel stations, almost exclusively located in the Los Angeles area. But, according to USA Today, a rise in demand is all it would take to get more fuel stations and make hydrogen fuel cars a hot (and smart) commodity.

What is a hydrogen fuel car?

A hydrogen fuel vehicle is an electric vehicle. The electricity to run the motor is created by mixing hydrogen from the fuel tank with oxygen from the air in the fuel-cell “stack.” The exhaust is water vapor, meaning no pollutants are created in the process.

How is the Tucson hydrogen fuel vehicle different?

The Hyundai Tucson fuel cell looks, drives, and feel almost identical to a regular gasoline-powered Tucson, and some say the fuel cell is even smoother and quieter than the original. Visual differences include a couple of badges and the car’s rear cargo floor, which sits about an inch higher in order to accommodate the hydrogen fuel tank below.

The Tucson fuel cell has an EPA combined rating of 50 miles per gallon-equivalent and a rated range of 265 miles after a 10-minute fill-up. That’s a far cry from plug-in battery electric cars, which typically range from 50 to 100 miles and require a multi-hour charge.

What are the benefits?

Besides the extended driving range, quick fuel-up, and a nearly identical look and performance, buyers also receive unlimited free hydrogen fuel and Hyundai’s “at your service” valet maintenance, in which the dealership picks up your Tucson, leaves a loaner, then returns your vehicle after the service or repairs are complete.

Here at Southtowne Hyundai, we think this could be the electric car technology of the future. Tell us in the comments: if hydrogen fuel was more accessible, would you buy one?

Official Hyundai Tire Program Keeps Making Vehicles (and Roads) Safer

Hyundai Tire Program

Car maintenance can be a real pain. You buy your car from a dealer and then you figure you’ll have to go searching all over the place for the best deals on tires, brake pads, and the like. However, thanks to the Hyundai Authorized Tire Center Program, which allows you to buy tires designed just for Hyundai vehicles right from the dealership, all that hassle can now be over.

The Hyundai tire program has already been incredibly successful, selling over 1 million tires. At an average of three tires per vehicle, that’s no less than 333,000 vehicles made safer simply by getting great new tires from an authorized Hyundai dealership.

“Year-to-date, our dealers have experienced more than a 20 percent increase in tire sales when the industry has only seen a five percent increase,” said Mike Knipe, senior group manager, customer satisfaction and service business development, Hyundai Motor America.“This is an important milestone for the partnership. This rapid and sustained success provides a good indication that there will be many more significant achievements in the future.”

Of course, there’s a “catch.” Well, here at SouthTowne Hyundai, we’d consider it more of “another reason to come see us” than a catch. You see, you have to actually have a Hyundai vehicle to make use of this exciting program. Come see us today and we can get you all fixed up!

Hyundai Reports Record-Breaking Month in August

record-breaking month

Hyundai had a record-breaking month this past August, as it reported sales up six percent from last year, to a total 70,003 units sold. This is the fourth consecutive month for Hyundai to have record-breaking sales.

So what about Hyundai is drawing people in so much? Maybe it’s the fact that the Hyundai cars are assembled close by, just over in Montgomery. The assembly plant there has reported that it hit a six-month high in production.

The Sonata was recently redesigned, and customers seem to like it. The Sonata had a 25 percent sales rise from last year. And the Elantra, although it hasn’t seen any redesign, is even outselling the Sonata.

These sales show that Americans are recognizing the quality vehicles Hyundai makes. If you want to discover the cars that people are consistently buying, come check out the Sonata, Elantra and other Hyundai vehicles available at South Towne Hyundai.
