Hyundai finally released their all-new Tuscon crossover model at the New York International Auto Show earlier this month, to an impressed audience of fans and experts.
The new vehicle hosts huge cosmetic upgrades as well as some seriously impressive specs, possibly even leading the affordable crossover segment in terms of available technology.
The 2016 Tucson has a two-liter direct injection engine that gets 164 horsepower in conjunction with a six-speed automatic transmission. There’s also an available 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, which gets 175 horsepower, if you’re looking for more power. Plus – the average fuel economy for the 2016 Tucson is 29 mpg.
As for the design, the new Tucson has a re-imagined hexagon of a grille, which is rounder and wider than previously, adding a sleek but familiar vibe to the popular model. The vehicle is larger overall, providing more space inside.

Investment in the U.S. production market is a high priority for Hyundai. Reports gleaned from a South Korean news agency indicated that in order to keep up with the healthy demand for Hyundai’s lineup of small SUVs and crossovers, a plan would soon be announced to build a new plant in the southern United States. Today’s lower gas prices have slowed the sale of cars while driving-up a high demand for trucks and SUVs.
“We need more truck capacity,” Dave Zuchowski, CEO of Hyundai North America remarked. “The volumes we’re talking about, a new plant would make more sense than U.S. expansion,” of an existing plant.
That might rule out expanding use of Hyundai’s Montgomery Alabama Plant where the Elantra and Sonata are already built, but an entirely new Hyundai plant, built next to the existing one, could be completed in about two years. “We’re positioned well to get into more crossovers and do more with existing ones,” says Zuchowski.
